How do you know a site is secure when you are making purchases online? Here are a few things to look for.
1. Look for the S in the address bar.
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.
2. Look for the lock symbol.
If you see a lock on the web browser address bar then you should also see that the website starts with HTTPS as opposed to HTTP in which case the page is using secure socket layer and is secure from a third party being able to see your information as it is being transmitted.
3. Click on the padlock icon and you can see the sites certificate. This is an example from our site.
